Below we have gathered together some of the most frequently asked questions about our photography service and the shoots themselves.  Feel free to browse and if you find your own questions aren’t answered please get in contact and I’ll be happy to help.

When should i book my newborn session?

I recommend booking as early as you can so to save dissapointment. I look to schedule a date within the first 14 days of the due date of baby. You can contact me via phone, email, Facebook with a only a deposit being required to secure your date.

As i understand due dates vary, i work with a “sliding diary” as i like to call it which means i always accommodate each and every mummy/daddy who chooses to book with me.

My baby is already born is it too late to book?

In my experience the optimum time for achieving the cutest squishy & cuddly photos is within 14 days of birth. The reason for this is that your little bundle will start to stretch out and become more awake after this time. This makes it much more difficult to achieve those types of images however we do understand this is not always possible for a number of reasons. If you are in a position where your little one has arrived please dont hesitate to contact me and we can discuss options to make sure you have images to treasure forever. For example: rather than traditional newborn style we might aim for images with little outfits or images which we capture your little one gazing into the camera to show off their gorgeous eyes… at the end of the day you will never be disappointed as all images are memories of how tiny and innocent they where are this stage in their life.

What should you expect during the session?

I am very hands on with the babies, I love getting cuddles during the shoots. Majority of the poses I will be able to position my self however sometimes I may need to borrow a set of hands. The last thing I want is getting the new mummy’s moving around to much so don’t worry about that.

Do you include family photos during the session?

To maximise the time when then little one is settled my main focus at the beginning of the shoot will be the newborn images. Once we have a collection of images we are happy with then I would be happy to include siblings or mum & dad – these can be really special images so well worth trying although i know sometimes parents can be shy but please cease the opportunity.

What should you wear?

Newborn baby will mostly be naked or wrapped in a cloth or possible have a hat or headband on.

Mum and dad plain black is probably the best choice, simple and no distracting patterns.

For siblings I would have them in something they are comfortable in and put it on them once they are ready to have their photos at the end of the session. Try stay away from distracting patterns and go for natural soft colours I.E baby blues, baby pinks, creams.

Make-up and hair should be whatever your most comfortable with. If you have your nails done I would go for a natural colour and make sure they aren’t chipped. Your hands will be used in some photos even if your face isn’t in them. It shows how tiny and precious your little bundle is.

Is there a deposit?

To secure your shoot I will require a non refundable £50 deposit paid via bank transfer. Once I’ve received this I will confirm your provisional date.

What happens if my baby comes earlier?

Once you have paid your deposit I will organise a provisional date under 10 days after your due date. If this changes please don’t worry contact me once you are out of the hospital and we can arrange your shoot.

Do you have a studio?

Currently it’s myself and my brother so we work from home and travel to either a clients home or a rented studio.

Who can attend the shoot?

I recommend mother of the newborn and someone their to help out for feeds, nappy changes etc I will help out where I can also.

For siblings if you can arrange them to have a day out and I can give you a rough time for them to return once we will be near the end of the shoot. Don’t worry if we are still doing photos and they arrive back its not a problem we will work with it.

What noise level should the shoot be?

The noise level that the newborn is use to, I want you to relax and enjoy the session. Feel free to keep your favourite programme on and kick your feet up.

How can you prepare for the shoot?

We will schedule your shoot roughly around the time I arrive and set up to suit their feeds. We want them to be in what I call a “milk comma” this gives me the best chances of getting those curled up poses without disturbing their sleep.

Don’t dress them in anything that needs pulled over their heads and might wake them up.

Try keep baby active up until we are ready to shoot.

Turn up the heating before I arrive, we will be warm however the baby with be naked most of the shoot and their body temperature drops fast when underdressed and they won’t be cosy or sleepy. I will also bring a fan heater to ensure their warm enough.

Will your "portable studio" fit in my house?

A home shoot is by far the most popular choice for my clients. I can set up my portable studio in your home meaning you can have a few hours to yourself and relax while i photograph the little one – don’t worry he/she is in safe hands.

As for the kit and placement – I always like to choose the brightest room in your house and I will try to get as close to a window/door as possible – not essential – but I love the way natural light falls onto the skin. I would need a space at least 2.5m x 2.5m where i can place a background, light & beanbag… the next step is just lots of patience and cuddles.

One final note, hopefully you don’t mind the heat, as i try to maintain a nice warm environment as this makes sure the wee one doesn’t feel the nip as they will be naked quite a lot. For this task i have a trusty little heater i will bring along.

How long does the session last?

Every session is different as we don’t know how the baby will be. I have had newborns done within 1-2 hours however I’ve also had newborns last up to 6 hours. I will try keep it between 3-4 hours. I do schedule out a whole day so we are on no timescale. Basically the little one controls the time.

Do you need to provide props?

I will provide a range of large blankets to cover the bean bag and act as a background for the photos. I have hats, headbands, stretch wraps, bonnets etc they are all handmade and carefully chosen to match my colour schemes

If you have any particular favourite colours I can certainly ensure I’ve got them.

Can we included our own props in the photos?

Yes of course and special bracelets, teddies, hats you’ve received and would like to include in your photos are welcome. Please show me these before we start shooting so I can create a plan in my head.

Can you request a particular pose?

Yes of course at the end of the day they are your photos so I’ll do my best to acommade you. However sometimes the babies don’t find all the poses comfortable and they will only relax and sleep where they are comfortable.

The newborns safety is my top priority I will never balance to baby on objects or its self with any adult support and taking the weight. With these type of photos they are what we call composite images and they are put together in Photoshop.

Are the images edited?

Yes all images will be put through the usual editing of exposure correction, colours, white balance, cropping etc I will also retouch any dry skin on the baby however I will not retouch any natural birth marks. If the umbilical cord stump is still in place not to worry I will try cover it as much as I can in the photos. It can be removed in Photoshop  at request however it is a natural aspect of birth.

When do we see our photos?

I will upload a sneak peak to my Facebook page one or two days after your shoot and you are welcome to share and tag with friends.

The rest of your photos may take up to two weeks and I will keep in contact with you so you know when to expect them. It depends how busy I am with other jobs at the time as its only my self that edits. I will send you an email through We Transfer and you can view all your images once I’ve received your prints and USB I will either post of deliver your profits for you this can take up to 4 weeks after your shoot.

How do we order products? I.E prints, thank you cards, Keyrings.

Once you’ve seen your photos through email. You can send me your print order the sooner you do this the sooner you’ll receive your USB finished product. You’ll have a digital pricelist of example size and cost in the email if you would like to order any extra prints on top on your package you would use that as a cost. If there are any particular frames you want to fill in the house let me know the size and I can price that up separately. I also offer larger canvas, thank you cards, keyrings, albums etc If you speak to me directly I’ll be bale to give you a price because each one is different.

How to book?

Booking is very easy: you can book via my website using the online payment system or if you prefer by bank transfer.

Do you require a deposit?

I take a 20% deposit upfront to secure any date although I would always recommend booking a free consultation.

Is there a consultation

A consultation with both the Bride & Groom is very important before confirming any booking. This allows us to discuss your vision for the big day and make sure I have an understanding of your every requirement – you can arrange this by clicking here.

How & when do i pay the balance?

You will be given a payment schedule as part of your booking confirmation. My terms of booking are for the 20% deposit to be made up to 50% 6 months prior to the wedding date with the remaining balance being paid in full 6 weeks prior to the date.

Can I customise my package?

Of course. It’s very rare that two wedding packages are the exact same. You can customise every part of your package so to make sure my services meet your expectations.

How many photographers cover my day?

In most cases two photographers is enough however if you feel a larger photography team is required then I work with other photographers who shoot in the same style to meet these requirements.

How many photos do we get?

It’s always hard to give an exact figure as every wedding is different – rather than committing to numbers I would always prefer to assure you that my role as your photographer is to document every aspect of the story of your day – with two shooters I can assure you, we won’t miss a thing.

When will I receive my images?

Please allow for up to 12 weeks at peak season (May – September) however in most cases this is much quicker.

Do I get a sneak peak?

I always upload a sneak-peak within 24 hours unless of course you would prefer to wait and see the images altogether.

Can I order prints?

I offer professional print services to meet all of your requirements. Popular options are album, prints, framing & canvases. This can be included in your package or added on after presentation of your images. These are available to family and friends where you give permission.

Do we offer a wedding album?

Some packages include a wedding album whereas others it’s an add on. Prices start from £200 and can be discussed in further detail at your consultation.

When should we book?

Like most wedding services, dates fill up well in advance. It’s advisable to book as soon as you are comfortable that I’m right for you. Please use the contact page to check availability and subsequently arrange a consultation.

What is your style of photography?

My style is natural, relaxed & pretty. I enjoy using soft natural light (where possible) and I look for lots of colours & tonnes that compliment each other while highlighting your natural beauty. I like to shoot a mixture of candid’s, traditional poses & often some more laid back images to capture the fun of the day.

Do you edit my images?

I use a combination of Adobe Photoshop & Light room to process and edit your images. I use the power of this software to bring out the natural colours and highlights. I rely on my technical photography skills to capture the image right the first time rather than processing it and ruining the natural beauty which nowadays seems to be a common thing.

What equipment do you use?

My kit is all Canon Professional Photography equipment. It’s made up of 2 DLSR cameras: 5d MKIII & 600D. I choose to shoot your day with a double storage bank so that should the worst happen I always have a back up!

Can i cancel or move my date?

The deposit is a non-refundable booking fee to secure your date. As I understand that things can change, i’am always happy to transfer your date (where possible) although for a full cancellation the deposit is always kept. If cancellation is within 6 weeks of the date, then the full booking cost would be retained.
